Abstract:

In recent years, along with rapid developments in technology, computer systems haveincreasingly become more integrated and more modular. Indeed, the reliability and efficiency ofcomputer systems are of high significance. Hence, the quantitative evaluation of the optimizationof reliability indexes in computer systems is considered to be a crucial issue. Reliabilityenhancement of computer systems against electromagnet and radiation interferences is a criticalrequirement in industries. Enhancing reliability can prevent system failure and fault and avoidfinancial and humanistic losses. Accordingly, software can play outstanding roles in reducing thenumber of errors in software programs. Consequently, software can enhance the reliability ofcomputer systems. In this paper, an efficient software-based method was proposed to enhance thereliability of computer systems against soft errors. The results of the experiments revealed that theproposed method had lower overhead, higher efficiency and higher error coverage than the earlier methods.

Proposing an Efficient Software-Based Method for Enhancing the Reliability of Critical Application Robot

Robots play such remarkable roles in humans’ modern lives that performing many tasks without them isimpossible. Using robotic systems is gradually increasing the tasks allocated to them and they are becomingmore complex and critical. Software reliability is one of the most significant requirements of robots. Forenhancing reliability, systems should be inherently designed to be tolerable of soft...

An Optimal Preventive Maintenance Model to Enhance Availability and Reliability of Flexible Manufacturing Systems

General preventive maintenance model for the components of a system, which improves the reliability to ‘as good as new,’ was used to optimize the maintenance cost. The cost function of a maintenance policy was minimized under given availability constraint. On the other hand, in order to ensure appropriate reliability and availability, the development of the optimal maintenanc...

Susceptibility of Modern Systems and Software to Soft Errors

It is widely understood that most downtime is accounted for by programming errors and administration time. However, recent work has indicated an increasing cause of downtime may stem from transient hardware errors caused by external factors, such as cosmic rays. Moving to denser semiconductor technologies at lower voltages will cause an increase in transient errors. We investigate the trends in...
